Mythic island      Nature & cultura      The weather

“I am presently moved by sun-drenched Parthenopea, my thanks are for you, Ischia, to whom a fair wind has brought me rejoicing with dear friends from soiled productive cities. How well you correct our injured eyes, how gently you train us to see things and men in perspective underneath your uniform light The boiling springs which betray her secret fever, make limber the gout-stiffened joint and improve the venereal act...”

Auden, Wystan Hugh (1907-1973)

History and modernity

Ischia, a magnificent island, a precious gem set in the Bay of Naples, has since the classical era fascinated poets and artists, as well as, more recently, historians, archaeologists and filmmakers.

As the first Greek colony in the Mediterranean, the island has throughout its long history been a veritable paradise where natural beauty, well-being and culture have come together to create one beautiful whole…

Activities to suit all tastes

Today, Ischia’s six districts offer the visitor a wide range of attractions: historic sites and archaeological museums of major renown, protected areas of outstanding natural beauty, thermal springs and parks celebrated by scientists, long stretches of sandy and rocky beaches, offering visitors an extensive choice of leisure activities: guided tours, horse-riding, surfing, scuba diving, hiking, etc.

Don’t miss...

The famous La Mortella, botanical gardens of Forio, created by Lord Byron, the English poet, and home to a wide variety of exotic plant species.
For fans of history and literatureThe Aragonese Castle, is a must: during its 600-year history, the castle has been the home of the aristocraticD'Avalos family and an international cultural centre during the humanist era, the Cenacolo ischitano of Vittoria Colonna. And don’t miss La Colombaia, the former home of film director Luchino Viscontiand now a museum; Michelangelo’s tower; the stone-age caves dug into the rocks; and the magnificent view from the top of monte Epomeo, over 760 meters high.
